Dental Crowns, Inlays, & Onlays
When you develop extensive tooth decay that a filling can't effectively correct, Dr. Eick may suggest a crown. Also called caps, crowns fit completely over a tooth to restore stability, strength, and function. Dr. Eick will assess whether or not you need a full crown, an inlay, or an onlay after completing a comprehensive exam.
Depending on the location of the affected tooth, he may select an all-ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal, or gold restoration. Because front teeth are an important part of your smile's appearance, Dr. Eick chooses white crowns, inlays, and onlays in most cases. Back teeth must endure intense pressure, though, so a metal or partially-metal restoration may be the best option.
Plan on two visits for your crown, inlay, or onlay. During the first appointment, Dr. Eick will prepare your tooth and take impressions for the dental lab. The doctor will also fit you with a temporary crown, inlay, or onlay. After we receive your restoration, you will return to our office for permanent placement of your new restoration.
If you would like metal crowns replaced with white restorations, if you have a toothache, or if you know that you need a crown, inlay, or onlay, call today to schedule your appointment. From our Rocky River location, Dr. Eick and our team welcome residents of Fairview Park, Lakewood, Westlake, and the greater Cleveland area.
